One of the benefits of the way I’ve done it is that I’ve created a plugin so that it doesn’t mess with any of WordPress’ core components. This means you can upgrade WordPress without any development knowledge without the risk of deleting your customized branding. Also, if for whatever reason you decide that you don’t want to use your custom branding, all you need to do is disable the custom created plugin.
